Job Purpose

The Operations Analyst is responsible for improving terminal‑level profitability, asset utilization, and service performance by converting transportation and financial data into actionable operational insights.

  • This role exists to ensure that terminals are using trucks, trailers, containers, labor, and routes efficiently—and that leadership decisions are grounded in measurable performance data rather than anecdotal reporting.
  • The Operations Analyst does not manage day‑to‑day dispatch, but instead provides performance transparency, variance analysis, and decision support to executive leadership and terminal management.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Transportation & Financial Data Analysis

  • Analyze terminal‑level P&L performance, including revenue per truck, cost per mile, margin by lane, and fixed vs variable cost absorption
  • Identify performance variances across terminals and isolate root causes (routing, asset mix, pricing, utilization, downtime)
  • Build and maintain standardized performance reports for weekly, monthly, and quarterly reviews

2. Asset Utilization & Routing Optimization

  • Monitor utilization of trucks, trailers, and containers by terminal
  • Identify under‑utilized or misallocated assets and quantify financial impact
  • Analyze empty miles, deadhead percentages, and dwell time to highlight routing inefficiencies
  • Work closely with Fleet Services to support recommendations for asset redeployment, capacity reduction, or targeted growth

3. Decision Support & Accountability

  • Prepare executive level summaries highlighting risks, opportunities, and recommended actions
  • Support VP of Operations and terminal leadership with data driven decision scenarios
  • Participate in monthly terminal performance reviews and document action items
  • Ensure terminal managers understand financial results and the operational drivers behind them

Explicitly Out of Scope

  • Day-to-day dispatch execution
  • Payroll or accounting close activities
  • Direct personnel management
  • System administration or IT ownership

Miscellaneous

  • Regular Attendance & Punctuality.
  • Complete required Safety and Job Training.
