Description

This position is responsible to help support the City of Merriam’s mission in helping to present well-maintained city streets; including public grounds clean-up, string-trimming, and mowing, tending to landscaped beds and tree trimming, transporting equipment to and from job sites, street maintenance assistance, performed in a safe manner, while promoting the City of Merriam’s values.

Essential Functions and Duties

• Assists with seasonal maintenance functions, including mowing (zero-turn mower), watering, trimming andpruning, and weeding
• Trash pick-up in city parks and roadways
• Drives or rides in trucks to haul project materials to and from job sites; loading and unloading materials and equipment
• Performs minor equipment maintenance and repairs. Washes vehicles and equipment
• Assists in painting of City buildings and equipment
• Operates in a safe manner while performing labor on construction and maintenance projects, including pavement cutting, asphalt and concrete repairs
• Promote the values of the City at all times
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Must posses a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving history and submit to a motor vehicle records check
• Must be at least 17 years of age
• Must be physically capable of working outside in all weather conditions in a physically active manner
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and to follow oral and /or written instruction
• Ability to work without the need for close supervision
• Working knowledge of various powered equipment
• Ability to perform heavy, manual tasks for extended periods of time
• Ability to stand and walk on concrete and/or uneven surfaces for extended periods of time
