Job Description

Special Education Teacher needed for ACES at Ansonia Middle School, Ansonia, CT. The ACES Program serves students in grades 6-8.  



Our program seeks to;




  • provide a challenging, diverse learning environment which meets the individual and diverse needs of each student with special needs.

  • to create an integrated curriculum which maximizes the use of technology and social-emotional learning in order to communicate effectively;

  • to encourage partnerships with families and community resources for the purpose of enriching the educational programs

  • to ensure a safe school environment through developing, implementing, and communicating clear expectations and guidelines for safety procedures; and

  • to support students through graduation with academic and social-emotional needs



The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:



Communication




  • Encourages communication to create a positive working and learning environment

  • Consults with members of the school community, parents and community agencies, demonstrating oral and written communication skills in an effective and responsible manner



Management




  • Assists with the orderly scheduling and implementation of a transdisciplinary program

  • Organizes time, space, materials, equipment and personnel for effective instruction and/or project completion

  • Develops and/or implements appropriate behavior management strategies



Planning




  • Plans instruction to achieve objectives

  • Develops and monitors behavioral objectives to meet learners' needs



Professional Responsibilities




  • Participates in PPTs, conferences, meetings and other activities, as assigned

  • Participates in activities for self-growth, evaluation, and on-going professional improvement

  • Supports program and agency goals and acts as an advocate for students, including the maintenance of confidentiality

  • Submits required reports in a timely manner, including child reporting forms

    Instruction



  • Varies instructional materials, activities and techniques including technological advances, as appropriate

  • Enhances student learning with resources and experiences from other educational and community agencies

  • Demonstrates data collection techniques for improved instructional decision making
