Paras working in Structured Learning (SL) classrooms will assist students who need intensive support and predictable, consistent routines throughout the school day. Many of these students are on the autism spectrum. The educational focus is on language, communication and social skills along with self-help, sensory integration and academic skills. Some form of toileting is very common for all ages. All health and safety precautions are followed.

Job Description
Job Title: Paraeducator-Structured Learning Exemption Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Principal Date Revised: December 2023
Primary Purpose:
Provide support to students with disabilities through instructional support, modeling, monitoring and
documenting student activities across all instructional settings.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification: High school diploma (or equivalent) required.
All Elementary paraeducators must be Highly Qualified (48+ college hours Or college
degree Or take/pass Highly Qualified Assessment).
Special Knowledge/Skills: Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills;
ability to instruct students and manage their behavior; ability to present information
one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students.
Experience: None required but preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
● Provides academic support to students (e.g. reading, writing, verbal skills, etc.) and supports the
implementation of IEP goals, assisting in adapting student needs into mainstream classrooms,
and ensuring student success.
● Assist with adapting classroom activities, assignments, and materials to support and reinforce
classroom objectives while working under the direction of the licensed staff member.
● Utilizes effective communication skills with a variety of individuals (e.g. supervising instructional
staff, professional support personnel, etc.) supporting the implementation of IEP objectives and
evaluation of student progress.
● Attends assigned meetings to acquire and convey information relative to job functions.
● Complete documents regarding student(s) daily activities for the purpose of completing daily
logs and student's hourly activities.
● Models desired behaviors (e.g. conversation, manners, cleaning activities, listening, everyday
interactions, etc.) for students in multiple settings.
● Implements behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or
other special conditions to reinforce learning concepts.
● Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance (e.g. diapering, tube feeding, colostomy
bags, medication, etc.) to meet immediate health care needs while assisting with daily living
activities and behavioral skills.
● Remains with students at all times ensuring the safety of students, removes students when
necessary, and de-escalating situations outside the classroom.
● Reports incidents for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive
learning environment, and adhering to State Law and school policies as a mandated reporter.
● Work cooperatively with all staff on various tasks and/or assignments.
● Ability to learn, understand, and reteach appropriate curriculum to meet student needs.
● Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the
work unit.
