Registered Nurse – Emergency Department
Location: Various Michigan Locations 
Employment Type: Contracted Coverage | Full-Time, Days or Nights
 
**This position will involve assignments at various locations as determined by business needs. Candidates must be willing and able to travel to different sites as required. Travel may include local or regional assignments, with applicable travel expenses reimbursed in accordance with company policy.

Job Summary:

We are seeking experienced and dedicated Emergency Department Registered Nurses (ED RNs) to provide coverage to our Michigan locations. In this role, you will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of emergency nursing care for patients presenting with a broad spectrum of medical conditions. This position requires the delivery of specialized nursing care utilizing expert clinical judgment and advanced skills, grounded in the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, and nursing sciences. The role functions within the full scope of RN practice as defined by the Michigan Board of Nursing and in accordance with all applicable healthcare accreditation standards.

Job Duties:
  • Partner with patients and their families to understand values, preferences, and needs in order to deliver respectful, compassionate, and coordinated care.
  • Provide timely patient education and discharge planning to promote self-care management and continuity of care across care settings.
  • Perform rapid assessments, prioritize care, and initiate treatment for patients experiencing acute illness, injury, or life-threatening conditions.
  • Apply critical thinking and sound clinical judgment to respond to emergent situations such as cardiac arrest, trauma, stroke, and sepsis.
  • Develop, implement, and adjust individualized care plans based on clinical findings, best practices, and patient-centered goals.
  • Coordinate care with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective treatment delivery.
  • Safely administer medications, intravenous therapies, and emergency interventions following state laws, hospital policies, and professional standards.
  • Identify, report, and mitigate safety risks, near misses, and adverse events.
  • Apply evidence-based practices and error-prevention techniques to promote patient and staff safety.
  • Utilize electronic health records (EHR) and clinical decision support tools to document patient care accurately and timely.
  • Maintain patient privacy and data security in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Engage in open, respectful, and effective communication with patients, families, and members of the healthcare team.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor to other nursing staff, students, and support personnel.
  • Escalate concerns, barriers to care, or critical issues through the appropriate chain of command.
  • Demonstrate accountability for nursing practice, ongoing professional development, and adherence to ethical and organizational standards.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives, unit meetings, and training activities to advance clinical practice and team performance.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure the effective delivery of care across units and care settings.
  • Participate in bedside shift reports, interdisciplinary rounds, and hourly rounding to promote communication, safety, and patient satisfaction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including supporting hospital operations, emergency preparedness, and team-based patient care activities.
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrates eligibility to work for any employer in the U.S.
  • Education: The RN in Michigan must complete twenty-five contact hours of continuing education during his/her licensure period. At least 2 hours of contact hours must be related to pain and pain symptom management. At least 1 hour of contact hours must be related to implicit bias training. BSN (preferred)
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Michigan.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required.
  • TNCC and ENPC certifications (or ability to obtain within one year of hire).
  • Ability to respond effectively to critical patient care situations.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency with EHR systems and healthcare technologies.
Physical Requirements:
  • May be expected to lift up to 50 pounds or up to 150 pounds with assistance. May be expected to push or pull 150-300 pounds with assistance.
  • Work is of medium demand; walking or standing most of the time while on duty
  • Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity essential to performing designated duties required. Optimal auditory acuity required
  • Manual dexterity involving the handling of equipment and instruments or needles is essential to performing assigned duties
  • Physical conditions are clean, neat and well lit
  • May be subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations and hazardous or infectious agents where judgment as to precautions needed to be taken is essential.  Climate control and ambient temperature variances may be experienced and required by patient care and needs of the surgical team
  • Exposure to limited amounts of radiation, hazardous chemicals or substances and infectious disease processes are a possibility
  • Hours of duty may be irregular or unexpectedly extended due to the requirements of the daily surgical and clinic schedule
