General Function:

Provides support and back-up to the Principal in providing a safe learning environment and ensuring a high-quality curriculum to include:  Attendance Office, Average Daily Membership (Registration/Withdrawal), Truancy Prevention, and Dropout Prevention.  Assists the Principal in implementing and managing policies, regulations, and procedures to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local regulatory agencies.

Education/Training/Experience

Minimum:  Master’s Degree in a related field and six (6) years of experience in teaching and/or Administration required. NM Level 3A License

Preferred: New Mexico Level 3B Administrative license. Bilingual: English-Spanish.

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities: 

 Excellent written and oral communication skills. Conflict mediation skills.  Possesses excellent listening skills. Ability to use a computer, including proficiency in MS Office programs. Ability to multitask, prioritize work activities, and meet deadlines. Organization facilitation skills. First aid and CPR. Word processing, e-mail, and standard office software packages. Knowledge of and experience with the District’s computerized data system is beneficial. Ability to make varied decisions, which at times must be made quickly, have a high impact on students and staff, may have long-term effects, and can have legal and financial implications for the school and district. A strong knowledge of services needed to support student learning.

Essential Job Functions

Performs all functions in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the organization. Current essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

1.   Communicates with parents, students, and staff to resolve student safety and discipline issues. Communicates with law enforcement contacts, attends hearings and investigations, and prepares documentation.  Monitors activities and facilities for conduct and safety concerns.

2.     Promotes and facilitates academic success for all students and staff.  Provides for instructional materials and supplies, and integration of technology into instruction and curriculum.

3.     Serves as liaison between the school and parents, business partners, and the community.  Attends school and community events.

4.     Assists students with general needs and makes referrals to internal and external services as needed.

5.     Assists with budget management and supervision of facilities and grounds maintenance.   Coordinates support services such as transportation, maintenance, and food services.

6.     Maintains the school’s master schedule, including registration for students and staffing assignment dates.

7.     Provides input to grant applications, charter applications, and reports.

8.     Coordinates or oversees special program staff.

9.     Supervises communication with parents and students regarding attendance, schedules, etc

10.  Participates in district and community meetings and committees. Communicates and upholds district policies in meetings and direct interpersonal exchanges. Develops consensus, mediates problems, coordinates schedules and activities with a variety of individuals, including staff members, district administrators and professionals, consultants, volunteers, parents, media reporters, and other people in the community.

11.  Assumes responsibility for the operation of the school in the absence of the principal; appears as a representative of the school instead of the principal

12.  Assists the principal in all areas of budgeting, supervision, and planning

13.  May assist in evaluating non-certificated staff.  May assist in evaluating certified staff if Administratively licensed.

14.  Assists in parent conferences

15.  Assists in general school record keeping

16.  Serves as student/parent liaison to counseling staff.

17.  Serves as program evaluator for all Student Services operations.

18.  Makes independent decisions only in areas stipulated by the principal

19.  Accepts the position as one of training as well as performance

20.  Keeps the principal informed of pertinent occurrences and decisions enacted during the absence of the principal

21.  May schedule and oversee athletic events and assemblies.

22.   Performs other related duties as assigned.

Salary Range:

Level 2 Teacher: $65,000+

Level 3 Teacher: $75,000+

Resources Used in Performing the Job Include (but are not limited to): 

Standard office and classroom equipment, including computers, copiers, fax, phone system, alarm system, and audio-visual equipment.

Physical/Cognitive Requirements: 

Regularly required to stand; move throughout a room and/or facility. Communicate verbally and electronically. Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, and drive. May have occasion to perform heavy lifting up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and private automobile. Some evening or weekend work and travel may be required. 

Environmental Conditions: 

Most work is performed in an indoor setting. Must have the ability to sit at a desk or computer for extended periods.  Requires light physical exertion, including some walking, bending, and reaching.  The environment may be hectic with classroom noise and frequent interruptions.  Occasional evening and weekend work.

  6. Protects the district’s resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment.
  7. Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to aid in the prevention of muscle strain/injury.
