CERTIFICATED JOB TERMS:

This position is split between the Glenwood Elementary and Hillcrest Elementary campuses.

School Multilingual Learner Specialist
Job Summary
The School Multilingual Learner Specialist provides on-site leadership to strengthen asset-based
thinking in providing instruction and support of our multilingual learners. The Specialist builds
successful working relationships through communication and collaboration with teachers,
administrators and classified staff within their school. Position objectives include providing support for
students and staff to strengthen English language development and student access to, and
engagement with, grade level instruction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of Specialist
● Ability to create strong and authentic relationships with school leaders, teachers, and
paraeducators that support a diverse population of students
● Models effective instructional practices including ways to provide access, modify, and/or
accommodate for different levels of language proficiency and monitor student learning; this
may be done in a co-teaching model
● Provide English Language Development instruction to small groups of students as needed
● Coordinates English Language Proficiency screening and annual assessment, ensuring testing
aligns with state and local requirements
● Provides small group and whole staff professional learning to support knowledge of
multilingual learner ELP data and strategies to support growth toward language proficiency,
including co-planning with individual teachers and/or teacher teams
● Collaborates with building administrators, teachers, and school staff, ensuring timely and
accurate communication; collaborates with other ML Specialists to share strategies
● Collaborates with building leaders on annual review of program based in disaggregated data
and building a continuous improvement plan as a part of the School Improvement Plan (SIP)
● Coordinates with the school’s Intervention Team to ensure appropriate use of interventions
and the Critical Data Matrix process prior to looking at special education services for any
multilingual learner
● Ability to demonstrate cultural competency, and respect and value for all cultural heritages
and participate in conversations about identifying and addressing personal, cultural and
institutional bias
Qualification Requirements
● Bachelor’s Degree
● Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with ELL or Dual Language Endorsement
● Expertise in best instructional practices for culturally and linguistically diverse students; at
least 3 years of experience in teaching multilingual learners
● Be GLAD Certification preferred
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical
procedures, laws or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and

procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of
administrators, staff, the general public and the Board of Directors.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical or complex problems and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract
variables where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions
furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Other Skills and Abilities
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to the instructional program; ability to plan
and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students. Ability to
establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and families; skill in oral and
written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board
policies.
