Primary Purpose:
Provide behavioral and instructional support to students in both general education and intervention settings, including Response to Intervention (RTI). Assist in implementing behavior support strategies, classroom management techniques, and instructional activities to promote student success. Work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher or designated campus administrator.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Meet one of the following requirements:
Associate’s degree; or
Two years of study at an institution of higher learning
Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of behavior management strategies and interventions
Ability to work with students with diverse academic, behavioral, and emotional needs
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to maintain emotional control in challenging situations
Knowledge of general office and instructional equipment
Experience:
Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred
Experience supporting behavior interventions or working with at-risk students preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional and Behavioral Support
- Assist teachers and staff in implementing instructional activities and behavioral interventions for students in general education, RTI, and targeted support settings
- Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce academic skills and behavioral expectations
- Support the implementation of behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and RTI strategies
- Help prepare instructional materials and maintain an organized learning environment
- Assist with data collection related to student behavior and academic progress
Student Management
- Support positive student behavior using proactive and restorative practices
- Assist in de-escalation and intervention during behavioral incidents, including crisis situations when necessary
- Monitor and supervise students in various settings, including classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, bus areas, and playgrounds
- Recognize and respond appropriately to students’ emotional, social, and behavioral needs
- Keep teachers and administrators informed of student progress, concerns, and behavioral patterns
Support for Students with Specialized Needs
- Assist students with physical, emotional, or behavioral needs as required
- Provide support with personal care, mobility, or other needs as assigned
- Adapt interactions and support strategies based on individual student needs
Other Duties
- Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information
- Participate in staff development, including training in behavior supports and crisis intervention
- Assist with campus initiatives related to student behavior and intervention systems
- Follow all district safety procedures and emergency protocols
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee
