About the Department

Are you a college junior or senior looking to gain hands-on experience in parks and recreation? Frederick County Parks & Recreation is seeking a motivated intern to assist with various aspects of our department, including recreation programming, facility management, event coordination, and park maintenance. This is a great opportunity to apply what you’ve learned in the classroom to a real-world setting while earning college credit.

Core Hours
Monday - Friday 
9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (occasional weekends and/or holidays to support Special Events in the Summer time)

Position Duties

What You’ll Do:

Key Responsibilities

As a Parks & Recreation Intern, you will:

• Assist with organizing and implementing youth and adult programming.
• Help manage facilities and coordinate department events.
• Support field maintenance, including preparation for programs and tournaments.
• Prepare reports, schedules, and promotional materials.
• Attend department meetings and training sessions.
• Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community organizations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

• Enrolled in a college or university internship/co-op program (must receive academic credit).
• Studying Recreation Management, Sports Management, Tourism & Event Management, Hospitality Management, or Forestry.
• Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have held it for at least 2 years
• Willingness to work during special events (i.e., weekends and holidays) in the Summer time.
