Job Description

We are currently seeking Journeyperson Powerline Technicians (PLT) to join our growing team to support Distribution projects in the Timmins, ON area.

Reporting to the Construction Foreman, PLT's are responsible for construction of overhead and underground electrical power distribution systems. This is a hands-on role where your technical ability and commitment to safety will directly support our operations and team culture.

Please Note: Candidates must reside locally or within a reasonable commuting distance. These projects will be for unionized worksites. Candidates must be willing to join Canadian Union of Skilled Workers (CUSW).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Erect and maintain steel / wood poles, towers, and guy wires
  • Install overhead and underground power lines, insulators, conductors, transformers, switches, and associated equipment
  • Perform conductor stringing, sagging, clipping, and dead-ending (energized and de-energized)
  • Execute advanced system switching tasks, including reclosers and loop feeds
  • Perform UG (underground) cable testing, terminations, and equipment installation
  • Splice, solder, and insulate conductors for connections
  • Model safe work practices and ensure crew adherence to Valard’s HSE policies
  • Mentor apprentices and junior personnel in tasks, safety protocols, and equipment use
  • Proficiently carry out advanced live line work procedures and teach basic live line procedures to apprentices
  • Lead or assist with job hazard assessments, fall protection plans, and critical lift plans
  • Ensure proper documentation of safety forms, inspections, and procedural compliance
  • Submit daily documentation and reports
