Job Description

Pay Range: $30.00 to $38.00 an hour

By adhering to Connecticut State Law, pay ranges are posted. The pay rate will vary based on various factors including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge of position and comparison to others who are already in this role within the company.

PACT MSO has a busy Gastroenterology Group that is seeing a Per Diem Histotechnologist to work in their Pathology Department. The position is located in Hamden.  Potential working hours would be afternoons and on Saturdays on a Per Diem schedule.

Summary

Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s), according to policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

• Ensure proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples.
• Process paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting.
• May perform gross tissue examination (high complexity testing) if meets personnel qualifications set forth by the 1988 CLIA CFR 493. 1489 and the corporate Minimum Qualifications for Personnel Performing Gross Tissue Examinations SOP.
• Ensure proper tissue processing.
• Embed processed tissue in paraffin.
• Perform microtomy of embedded tissue.
• Prepare slides for routine staining.
• Perform cover slipping of stained slides either manually or automated.
• Ability to prepare solutions and reagents for special stain procedures.
• May be required to obtain and validate control tissue used in special stains.
• Maybe required to perform special stain procedures.
• Perform filing of finished blocks and slides.
• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment.
• Adhere to laboratory's quality control policies, and documents all quality control activities

 

Skills and Knowledge

• Demonstrated knowledge and skill of histology
• Works autonomously
• Critical thinking skills including problem solving and trouble shooting skills

Education and Experience

  • AA, AS, BS degree or equivalent training and experience
  • HT or HTL ASCP certification preferred
  • 3 years or more of Histology experience as a Histotechnologist
  • Science Background (CLIA High Complexity Testing regulations) required
