We are seeking a highly organised and motivated Senior Safety Engineer to support an innovative marine project. Based at a client site, you will be part of a team developing a new marine system. We are seeking an experienced Senior Safety Engineer to support a new programme developing a surface and underwater vessel. This is a senior, self-starting role ideal for someone who brings best practice, initiative and applies strong safety engineering practices in their every day work. You will contribute to early-phase architecture, requirements development, safety critical systems considerations and integration approaches across a complex marine platform. 

 

Note: Expectations are you will be at the customers Portsmouth office 3 days a week for the first month, and then 1 day a week thereafter.

Responsibilities as the Senior Safety Engineer will include (but may not be limited to): 

  • Capture, develop, and manage safety requirements in early system definition phases. 
  • Conduct hazard identification, develop & maintain hazard logs, and perform structured hazard analysis. 
  • Define and execute the project Safety Plan and Safety Case strategy. 
  • Carry out risk assessments and drive mitigation actions. 
  • Ensure safety compliance across systems and sub-systems. 
  • Work with Systems Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical and Software teams to embed safety into design. 
  • Prepare safety documentation, reports and contributions to design reviews. 
  • Support Vertification & Validation activities from a safety perspective.  

 

The Safety Engineer will be required to have the following skills and experience;

  • Experience of safety management application on complex, multi-disciplinary systems. 
  • The development of Safety Case reports, assessing Safety Case validity and safety assurance including ALARP assessments and providing Safety Arguments for Design Authority Approval.
  • Comprehensive experience of Risk Management, including Hazard Logs, Hazard Identification and Hazard Analysis.
  • Identification and management of safety engineering requirements. 
  • System Safety Analysis; e.g. Fault Tree Analysis, Bow Tie Analysis.
  • Application of defence safety standards & policy (e.g. Def Stan 00-56, Def Stan 00-55, DSA02 DMR, ASEMS policy (POSMS), IEC 61508).
  • Assessing supplier safety compliance, in accordance with legislative and contractual safety requirements.

The following skills and experience are desired, but not essential, for the role: 

  • Experience with SIL assessment.
  • Valid SC Clearance. Sole UK Nationality.
