    Summary: The NBFA School Nurse must be committed to and advocate for its mission to provide students a meaningful, high-quality education through experience-based learning that helps develop essential social, emotional, and critical-thinking skills. This gives all children a foundation to achieve their full potential at every stage in life.
     
    The School Nurse advances the well-being, academic success, and long-term outcomes of students by addressing health needs and providing services that foster better and mental aptitude.
     
    Principal Accountabilities:
    • Conduct vision and hearing screenings
    • Educate students on hygiene and safety practices
    • Collaborate with the primary care physician, specialists, local public health and social service agencies to ensure a full spectrum of effective and quality services that sustain the student and his/her ability to achieve
    • Ensure compliance with school entry health requirements
    • Assure student compliance with state and local health regulations (e.g. immunizations, mandated screenings)
    • Provide a system for dealing with crisis medical situations
    • Provide care and case management for children with chronic health problems
    • Ensure the security and safe administration of medications
    • Ensure that quality health education courses are offered by serving on curriculum and planning committees
    • Ensure adherence to the school’s wellness policy
    • Refer the student and family to a physician, or other health-based facility, as needed
     
    Certification, Knowledge and Skills:
    • Maintain a current Connecticut license as a Registered Nurse
    • Be highly organized and possess great attention to detail
    • Maintain the highest level of professional and ethical standards
    • Have excellent communication skills to work with all constituencies
    • Communicate frequently with parents, both orally and in writing
    • Candidates fluent in oral and written Spanish, French Creole or Portuguese encouraged to apply
