The EMS Adjunct Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in accordance with state and national EMS education standards. This role involves teaching assigned EMS courses—ranging from EMT to Paramedic level—using both didactic and hands-on instructional methods. The instructor ensures that all course content aligns with curriculum guidelines and regulatory requirements set by the North Carolina Office of EMS and/or CoAEMSP, where applicable. Responsibilities include preparing lesson plans, assessing student performance, maintaining accurate records, and promoting a safe and inclusive learning environment. Adjunct instructors may also assist with skills labs, simulation exercises, and clinical coordination under the direction of the Program Director. Strong communication skills, current EMS certification at or above the level being taught, and a commitment to student success are essential. Instructors serve as professional role models and are expected to stay current with best practices and continuing education in EMS.


  • This position may have occasional travel between campuses and for training. Occasional after hours may be required.

Position Duties

  • Embrace the mission and goals of Central Carolina Community College by actively engaging students in the learning process and removing barriers to student progression and success.
  • Use effective and interactive teaching methodologies aligned with EMS education standards to deliver course content in a dynamic and student-centered environment.
  • Provide adequate instruction and feedback to help students meet CoAEMSP program goals and demonstrate learning outcomes at the appropriate Bloom’s Taxonomy level.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of EMS protocols, standards, and best practices. Adjust instructional content to reflect current EMS trends and guidelines.
  • Teach assigned contact hours in classroom and/or laboratory settings based on program needs and instructor availability.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance, grading records, and documentation in accordance with CCCC policies and procedures.
  • Utilize Blackboard (Bb) Ultra to maintain course content, gradebooks, and student communication in all assigned classes.
  • Participate in mandatory instructor training and orientation, including Blackboard training and staff development activities as required.
  • Serve as a professional role model and mentor to EMS students, demonstrating integrity, skill proficiency, and professionalism.
  • Support student recruitment, retention, and engagement initiatives in cooperation with program leadership.
  • Promote the program through positive relationships with the EMS community, including local providers and industry stakeholders.
  • Fulfill additional instructional-related duties as assigned by the EMS Program Director or lead instructor.

Minimum Qualifications

Required educational background:

  • Credentialed as a North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician or as a National Registry Emergency Medical Technician or higher..

Required kind and number years of work experience:

  •       Minimal of 1-year experience as an EMT or higher. 

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge of course content, all pre-hospital equipment; and ambulance operations.

  • Ability to travel to all college service areas.

  • Must be proficient in all skills required for the class being taught with the ability to teach skills to others.

  • Must meet NCOEMS credentialing guidelines.

Required license or certificate: 

  • Credentialed as a North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician or as a National Registry Emergency Medical Technician or higher.

Other Qualifications

  • Associate degree

  • NC Level I instructor

  • Knowledge of Blackboard (an online Learning Management System)
