The Grinnell Press Editor-in-Chief is responsible for leading the Grinnell Press publication cycle and organization. They lead the semesterly publication cycle, which includes leading the selection and hiring of Press content creators, coordinating editors' and content creators' collaborative book project, supporting Press staff by providing peer mentoring and assistance with projects, and coordinating with college administrators, staff, and printers to print books each semester. The Editor-in-Chief is also responsible for managing Press social media, outreach, and events that publicize Press's work and present creative opportunities for the student body. Editors-in-Chief are also charged with annual organization processes, such as managing and advocating for Press's budget, hiring Press editors and editors-in-chief on an annual basis, and other organizational needs that are coordinated with the Department of Student Affairs. Student must be organized, possess strong project management skills and communication skills, and be able to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
Job duties: Collaborates with fellow Press staff, supervisor, administrators, and the student body to publish student-produced books on a semesterly basis, as well as advocate for creative outlets and publishing opportunities for Grinnell Students. Responsible for planning, coordinating, and leading Press's semesterly publication cycle calendar, including but not limited to: Meetings with supervisor for relevant requests and needs, such as supply purchases, ordering books, hiring, and check-ins. The semesterly hiring process for content creators, as well as hiring editors and editors-in-chief on an annual basis and as needed. Training for all Press editors on publication cycle and Adobe suite skills, as well as introductory meetings for content creators. Deadlines for applications, paperwork, layout work, and printing to ensure that publishing hard copies of books takes place in a timely fashion. Regular check-in meetings with Press staff Outreach initiatives, events, tabling, and work with other publications. Responsible for additionally supporting Press editors and content creators navigate the publication cycle, including coordinating with their content creators, technology troubleshooting, creative problem solving, etc. Manages and advocates for Press's annual budget in collaboration with SPARC media heads and Department of Student Affairs staff, with the potential voluntary responsibility to represent SPARC publications during annual budgeting process. Maintains Press's social media presence and email account to promote Press events, hiring, and other relevant opportunities.
