Job Description

Be the Spark that ignites the potential in people! At our YMCA, we believe in the power of people. Every day, our dedicated employees and volunteers bring energy, positivity, and inclusivity to everything they do. They are the spark that ignites potential in others—helping individuals grow, thrive, and truly belong.

When people feel connected and supported, communities become stronger, more resilient, and full of life. That’s the impact of people-powered change. Together, we create welcoming spaces where everyone is valued, differences are celebrated, and possibilities are endless. Be the spark. Shine bright. Help others shine too.

About the Role:

Are you passionate about technology and ready to build your digital skills? The YMCA of Northern Alberta is looking for an enthusiastic and tech-curious individual to join our team as an IT Support Assistant.

In this role, you’ll be the go-to person for helping our staff with their tech needs — from fixing everyday computer issues to setting up and testing new devices. You’ll also help update our digital guides and resources so others can learn from your work.

This is a great opportunity to build real-world digital skills and learn how technology keeps a large community organization running. You’ll gain hands-on experience in IT troubleshooting, device setup, and software tools, all while being part of a friendly, supportive team that loves to share knowledge.

If you’re curious about how technology connects people and want to kickstart your career in IT, this role is the perfect place to start. You’ll get to learn, grow, and make a real difference — all without needing to travel or work off-site.

This is a full time contract position from June 1, 2026 to August 21, 2026.

Responsibilities:

  •  Help staff with everyday tech questions — like password resets, account access, or setting up Microsoft Teams and meeting rooms — using our step-by-step guides.
  • Get hands-on with real tech gear! You’ll prepare laptops and other devices by labeling, testing, and updating them so they’re ready for new users.
  • Make sure everything works perfectly — from Wi-Fi and webcams to printers and microphones — and record your results as part of our quality checks.
  • Improve our digital guides by adding screenshots, fixing outdated steps, or sharing helpful tips you’ve learned from real situations.
  • Support team changes by helping set up or securely reset devices for new or departing staff members.
  • Identify areas where technology can be integrated into processes to best streamline and enhance staff and member experiences - including digital, AI, or tech integrations.
  • Keep our tech inventory organized by updating who’s using which device and where it’s located.
  • Learn when to call in backup! For trickier problems, you’ll pass them on to our senior IT staff with clear notes about what you’ve already tried.
  • Celebrate your progress by tracking your weekly activities — like how many tickets you solved or devices you set up.

Qualifications:

  • Able to obtain a Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Comfortable following documented procedures and using checklists.
  • Strong written communication for creating or updating step-by-step documentation.
  • Detail-oriented with solid record-keeping skills.
  • Friendly, eager to learn, and passionate about the YMCA mission.
  • Interest in IT support, troubleshooting, and customer service.

Canada Summer Jobs Grant Participant Eligibility

  • Between the ages of 15-30 at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada
