Job Description

We are seeking experienced Senior Transportation Construction Inspectors to support critical NYSDOT projects across multiple counties in New York State, including Albany, Essex, Greene, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Warren, and Washington. This role is essential to ensuring the quality, safety, and compliance of transportation infrastructure projects. Inspectors will oversee a wide range of construction activities, from asphalt and bridge work to electrical systems and traffic signal installations, ensuring adherence to NYSDOT standards, federal guidelines, and industry best practices. The position demands technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in dynamic field environments, contributing directly to the long-term durability and safety of state transportation assets.

Responsibilities:

Conduct comprehensive inspections of HMA/asphalt paving, milling, compaction, density, core sampling, and pavement markings.

Perform inspections during night paving operations and ensure compliance with NETTCP and NICET Asphalt certification standards.

Oversee electrical construction activities, including traffic signal head and controller installation, loop detection, signal timing, and cabinet assembly.

Inspect pole, mast arm, and foundation installations, as well as conduit, pull boxes, fiber, and copper cable deployments.

Conduct bridge rehabilitation inspections, including deck and joint repairs, concrete patching, rebar verification, structural steel work, and painting.

Ensure compliance with FHWA-NHI training modules (130101, 130055, 130128) and NYSDOT M&PT and MUTCD standards.

Document inspection findings, prepare reports, and communicate issues promptly to project managers and stakeholders.

Maintain accurate records and ensure all work meets federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.


Compensation: $50+ per hour

Requirements:

Valid NICET Level II or higher certification in Asphalt (or equivalent experience).

Proven experience in HMA/asphalt inspection, compaction, density testing, and pavement marking compliance.

Demonstrated expertise in traffic signal installation, signal timing, and electrical infrastructure inspection.

Experience with bridge rehabilitation projects, including concrete repair, rebar inspection, structural steel, and painting.

Familiarity with NYSDOT M&PT, MUTCD, and FHWA-NHI training standards (130101, 130055, 130128).

Ability to work independently and in challenging field conditions, including night operations.

Strong written and verbal communication skills with a detail-oriented approach to documentation.

Willingness to travel across designated NYSDOT project counties and work flexible schedules as needed.
