Job Description

Key Responsibilities

The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for the following duties:

  • Maintain a safe work environment for transportation operations.
  • Manage and supervise the various work teams.
  • Manage transportation crews, plan work for upcoming shifts, and participate in daily operational conference calls.
  • Develop, support, and coordinate the operations of various work teams as well as train movements.
  • Perform various administrative tasks and reports, and maintain a rigorous approach to workforce planning.
  • Coordinate transportation department activities in accordance with the applicable collective agreement, while being responsible for managing certain disciplinary matters within the group.
  • Understand the requirements of various customers in order to meet their expectations and improve existing processes when necessary, with the objective of exceeding customer expectations.
  • Provide professional customer service, meet delivery deadlines, and inform customers of any delays.
  • Manage work schedules and keep them up to date (replacement and availability lists, overtime control).
  • Ensure employee safety by confirming that accidents are reported, safety policies are followed, and operating rules are strictly respected.
  • Prepare various reports as required by the company.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

General Qualifications

  • College diploma in Administration and/or Management, and/or relevant experience in the railroad industry.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the railroad industry.
  • Qualification in Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR).
  • Qualification as a Conductor and/or Locomotive Engineer is considered an asset.
  • High level of flexibility regarding work hours in order to oversee all work teams and interact with various customers.
  • Bilingual in French and English, both spoken and written. English is required to communicate with clients and colleagues in the United States.
  • Experience in personnel management is a significant asset.
  • Strong adaptability and flexibility in a constantly changing environment.
  • Willingness to work weekends and occasionally outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Proficiency with common word processing, database, and email software.
