Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Belmont University seeks to hire an undergraduate Research Assistant to assist a science faculty member researching Christian theological and ethical responses relevant to the technology of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) and Machine Learning.

Responsibilities and Duties:
The student will be responsible toCollect and organize relevant prior and ongoing work:
o Conduct literature reviews
o Assist in the preparation of clerical materials
o Assist faculty member in maintaining a bibliographyAssist with Faith & Science initiatives on campus:
o Faith & Science Club: attend monthly meetings, provide organizational and logistical support
o Attend and promote the Faith & Science Speaker Series
o Attend area seminars, convocations and other meetings as appropriateCollaborate with faculty member:
o Summarize project results in written and oral forms
o Engage in discussions with faculty member
o Edit and proofread project-related reports and essays, so that concepts are clearly stated and understandable to non-specialists.
o Help ensure that key questions of being, doing, and becoming are placed in the context of historical and ongoing conversations in the humanities and science

Required Qualifications

Basic clerical work (typing, lifting and carrying 20 lbs, filing).

Preference will go toward a student graduating in 2019 or 2020 majoring in Religion, Philosophy, or Computer Science, who is self-motivated to explore the interfaces of theology, technology and ethics. Good written and oral communication skills, critical thinking skills, and proficient reading comprehension are a must.
