OVERVIEW:

Provide meter services necessary to obtain meter readings. Ensure accurate recordings of electric usage; meter installation, maintenance, and removal; locate underground distribution facilities. Provide debt recovery services on delinquent accounts while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction in accordance with NOVEC policies and procedures.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Other related duties may be assigned. An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and effectively. Reasonable accommodation may be available to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

 

  • Obtain meter readings by utilizing the MV-90 XI program; ensure accurate recordings of electric usage; and investigate, maintain, and update records for proper billing utilizing G-5 handheld equipment.
  • Accurately locate and mark NOVEC underground distribution facilities.
  • Connect/Disconnect service for NOVEC's customers
  • Collect payments on delinquent accounts
  • Perform damage assessment of the NOVEC distribution system during storms
  • Exchange meters for service and perform meter installation, maintenance, and removal of single and self-contained three-phase meters.
  • Perform position responsibilities in accordance with NOVEC policies and procedures and VOSHA safety regulations.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED with a technical or mathematical background is required.
  • A minimum of eighteen months of previous experience in meter reading; meter installation, maintenance, and removal; and work with 600 Volt electric utility meter systems or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Must successfully pass meter reading test and complete 600 Volt certification if not previously completed within two months of employment.
  • Must successfully pass locating test within two months of employment.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:   

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of staff and the general public both orally and in writing while maintaining professionalism and control in all circumstances. 
  • Apply working knowledge and ability to operate a personal computer/laptop and related software such as Daffron, Polaris Workforce, and MS Office.
  • Ability to work with System Operations Department to locate and report damage to the NOVEC system whenever necessary and investigate damages when found. 
  • Ability to perform all responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies/procedures and VOSHA safety guidelines
  • Anticipate and meet rapidly changing customer needs by quickly refocusing and realigning strategic and operational direction.
