What does an SSHO do?
Protect the customer's scope per the terms and conditions of the construction contract using OSHA guidelines. The USACE Engineering Manual 385-1-1 ("EM 385") requires that 'at least one' SSHO shall be present on any construction project site funded by federal dollars.
This innovative program requires a commitment on your part to follow the program and trust the process.
Your experience may include any combination of the following:
Previous SSHO / related job experience
DoD/USACE experience
Construction experience
Safety training for construction health and/or safety
Experienced in risk management/mitigation
A track record of getting 'stuff' done!
You are willing to study for and achieve the following three certifications ($500 investment):
OSHA 30-C (OSHA 30-Hour - Construction)
First Aid & CPR
USACE CQM-C (Certified Quality Manager - Construction)
OPTIONAL: 40-hr EM 385-1 course

What are the typical requirements to be an SSHO:
No college degree is required, but helpful
6-8 years of safety and supervisory experience (accumulated on military forts, posts, camps, stations, and bases)
Construction experience is helpful!
30-hr OSHA 30-C
1-hr First Aid/CPR certification course
18-hr USACE CQM-C certification course
Optional: 40-hr EM 385-1 course
What is the typical salary for an SSHO?
$62K - $102K depending on company and location
