    Highlands Middle School and Highlands High School are seeking a Speech and Debate Team Coach for the 2026-27 school year. 

    Position Purpose

    The Middle School and High School Speech & Debate Team Coach is responsible for developing, organizing, and leading a competitive speech and debate program. The coach will foster students' skills in public speaking, critical thinking, research, argumentation, and performance while promoting teamwork, discipline, and academic excellence.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Plan, organize, and conduct regular team practices and workshops
    • Instruct students in various speech and debate events (e.g., Declamation, Broadcasting, Public Forum, Extemporaneous Speaking, Dramatic Interpretation, etc.)
    • Develop students' skills in research, writing, argument construction, and delivery
    • Prepare students for competitions, including topic analysis, case development, and practice rounds
    • Coordinate and supervise attendance at tournaments, including travel arrangements when necessary
    • Manage team registration, competition entries, and compliance with league rules
    • Provide individual and group feedback to support student growth and performance
