The Head Coach will oversee all aspects of the Upper School Girls' basketball program (Varsity, JV, and additional levels), ensuring a positive, demanding, and inclusive experience for all student-athletes. The successful candidate will have a track record of success as a program builder who develops young men on and off the court and aligns fully with EA's mission and values.

About You

You are a proven program leader with a competitive mindset who understands that strong relationships, clear standards, and daily habits drive winning programs. You can build and sustain a basketball program across all levels-developing players, mentoring staff, and creating alignment from Middle School through Varsity. You value multi-sport participation, communicate with clarity and purpose, and foster a culture centered on growth, character, and competitive excellence.

Key Responsibilities & Qualifications

  • Lead and manage all Upper School Girls' basketball teams
  • Hire, develop, and lead a high-quality coaching staff
  • Design and implement effective, high-energy practice plans at all levels
  • Recruit, retain, and develop student-athletes within an independent school setting
  • Supervise contests, travel, and program logistics
  • Understand the rules governing the sport of basketball
  • Support and help grow Middle School and Lower School basketball programming
  • Communicate clearly and proactively with players, families, and school partners
  • Work closely with strength and conditioning coaches and athletic trainers to ensure student-athletes are physically prepared, healthy, and able to perform at their highest levels
  • Report all scores and statistics to local media and school partners
  • Collaborate with varsity coaches to support multi-sport athletes and avoid seasonal conflicts
  • Oversee a mission-aligned social media presence that promotes the program and celebrates student-athletes
  • Be a visible, active member of the school community who supports EA's mission and values

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Playing experience preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years varsity-level coaching experience (or higher)

Evening, weekend, and travel commitments are required.

The Episcopal Academy seeks candidates who hope to help foster a school environment where all people are valued and where all perspectives are respected and appreciated, as described in our Diversity and Inclusion statement.
