JOB QUALIFICATIONS:


 


Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a concentration in the area of special education or a related field required.



Certification or Licensure: Holds or meets requirements for Georgia leadership certification, and teacher certification in special education or related field.



Skills: Knowledge of the instructional curriculum for the grade/content range of the position and special education programs. Knowledge of the Individualized Education Program (IEP), learning theory, differentiated instruction, data collection, research-based reading instruction, multicultural education, assessments, Individuals with Disabilities IDEIA Act (IDEA 2004), No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB 2001), and state and federal policies and procedures related to special education. Knowledge of learning theory, differentiated instruction, developmental reading, child development, behavior management, and assessment. Ability to work well with students with disabilities, teachers, and parents of students with disabilities. Ability to adapt instruction, programs, and materials. Ability to collect instructional data for the decision-making process. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Ability to model professional, moral, and ethical standards. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and various integrated applications.



Work Experience: Student teaching in the specific area of exceptionality or two years of teaching experience in the specific area of exceptionality (learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, or emotional disabilities) preferable at a level appropriate to the assignment (elementary or secondary), other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.


 


PRIMARY DUTY:


This position is responsible for providing direct services and instruction to students with disabilities outside of the school building including community sites and/or homes. The teacher will maintain a caseload including developing and managing the Individual Education Program (IEP).


 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


1.Extensive local travel fromt he district office to community sites including students' homes.
2.Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
3.Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student.
4.Provide an instructional program to meet the needs of all students including students with disabilities.
5.Collect data on student performance in order to improve student outcomes and direct instruction.
6.Develop, select, and modify instructional plans that meet the needs, interests, and abilities of individuals to ensure success for every student.
7.Provide input, when necessary, to students' IEPs including the use of diagnostic programs
8.Prepare for IEP team meetings and provide case management for assigned students with disabilities.
9.Select and adapt materials to assist students with disabilities in accessing the general education curriculum.
10.Complete all required paperwork according to compliance and within the given timeframe.
11.Meet required deadlines for annual reviews and eligibility redetermination.
12.Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
13.Assist students with other needs as appropriate such as toileting/diapering, feeding, positioning, lifting, dressing, and other self-help skill areas as needed.
14.Provide health services necessary to enable students to benefit from educational services which may include intermittent catheterization, tracheotomy care, tube feeding, changing of dressings or colostomy collection bags, and any other service deemed appropriate.
15.Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
16.Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
17.Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and the community.
18.Establish relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and the community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual.
19.Participate in department, district, and parent meetings.
20.Participate in professional development activities designed to advance teacher knowledge in the areas of instruction, best practices, and differentiated instruction.
21.Maintain fair and accurate grading policies and procedures, attendance, e-mail, and web pages as required through the technology system provided by the school system.
22.Foster a climate that supports both student and staff success and promotes respect and appreciation for all students, teachers, staff, and families of the school system.
23.The employee shall carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed above or not, board policy, administrative regulation, department handbook, as are reasonably necessary to the efficient operation of the school system and its mission.
