Job Description

The Staff Chaplain under the direction of the Supervisor of Spiritual Care provides hospital-based spiritual care and pastoral/emotional support to patients, families, and staff of UnityPoint Health-Meriter. They function as a representative of the Department of Spiritual Care (DSC). Within this role, they assist with fostering connections to community clergy.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree
Enrolled in Master’s Degree or Divinity program or equivalent
Previous pastoral ministry experience of chaplaincy in a hospital setting.
4 units of CPE
Ministry work in a church or similar

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree of Divinity or equivalent
4 Units of CPE
Board Certification: Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC) or National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC) - strongly preferred
Eligible for Professional Board Chaplain Certification
Ordination (or similar based upon spiritual background) and in Good Standing
