Job Description

Type of position: Regular

Your future role on our team:

Your role as a Mechanical Designer will involve preparing 3D models, drawings,
and other technical documents predominately for mining projects. In addition to
delivering high-quality service and maintaining positive relationships with
colleagues and clients, you’ll actively contribute to projects within the
mechanical engineering discipline in Ontario, nationally and internationally as
required. As part of our growing Toronto office, you’ll join a fun and
collaborative team that works together to deliver fast-paced projects. We’re

  • Perform
    mine plant layout design for studies and detailed design projects of high
    complexity
  • Design
    materials handling and conveyor systems
  • Design
    of chutes, tanks and plate work
  • Design
    of mill processing buildings
  • Prepare
    mechanical layout design and detail drawings
  • Coordinate
    and manage project drafting and drawing updates
  • Prepare
    designs using 3D CAD software (Intergraph Smart 3D, AutoCAD,
    Solidworks)
  • Participate
    and contribute to project coordination, internal and client review
    meetings
  • Coordination
    of project specifications with construction documents
  • Carry
    out technical assignment for projects such as system setup, deliverable
    lists, and research
  • Manage
    mechanical layout budget, schedule, and work power loading
  • Support
    in the development of project design basis
  • Support
    the development of project schedules, budgets, and progress metrics
  • Manage
    mechanical layout budget, schedule, and work power loading
  • Communicate
    with vendors, carry out vendor reviews and use vendor data efficiently in
    designs
  • Participate
    in site inspections, field reviews, quality assessments and oversee
    testing
  • Assist
    in interpreting the plant PFDs, P&IDs, and plant battery limit
    constraints
  • Perform
    clash detection
  • Prepare
    and develop proposals
  • Mentor
    and train junior designers and engineers
  • Be
    able to work on multiple projects concurrently
  • Work
    with 3D point cloud scan data

Overview of certifications and job requirements:

  • 10+
    year’s relevant experience in mechanical layout and design drafting of
    mineral processing plants in a multidisciplinary
    engineering design environment
  • Mechanical
    Engineering Technologist/Technician diploma or equivalent
  • Gold,
    silver, copper, zinc, and lead commodities experience
  • Experience
    in mechanical engineering in mine process plants including knowledge of
    mechanical systems, materials, and industry standards
  • Knowledge
    of mechanical codes, building codes and standards
  • Experience
    in mechanical design of chutes and plate work
  • Experience
    within a large project, multidisciplinary environment (EPCM an asset)
  • Experience
    with greenfield and brownfield projects
  • Knowledge
    of 3D CAD tools such as: Smart 3D, SP3D, Solidworks, CADworx and AutoCAD
  • Knowledge
    of 3D point clouds considered an asset
  • Ability
    to travel and perform site work, where required
  • Initiative
    to identify tasks that need completion and accept the responsibility of
    seeing those assignments through to the final stage
  • Experience
    with mechanical design and layout in hydropower, pulp and paper and clean
    energy would be considered an asset
  • Thorough
    understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and ability to
    communicate ideas to others
