  • Valid Board of Audiology and Speech/Language Pathology license (BASLP)
  • Signed copy of your most recent evaluation or speech therapist internship evaluation (if recent or current graduate)
  • Unofficial transcripts
  • VA Child Abuse Recognition & Intervention Training Certificate

  • Emergency First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) (including a hands on CPR skills practice), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training certification

  • Dyslexia Awareness Training

* Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Masters degree in speech or language pathology and considerable experience as a classroom teacher.

 

Description:

  • Performs difficult professional work delivering instructional and clinical services to speech/language impaired students; does related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision.
  • Identifies and serves speech/language impaired students within the school system;
  • Screens school system pupils to identify speech/language-impaired individuals;
  • Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing and language impairments;
  • Plans and implements remedial procedures to modify deficient communications skills;
  • Directs therapy sessions including speech/language articulation, voice and fluency therapy;
  • Consults and collaborates with teachers and monitors student progress;
  • Plans instructional programs and preparations;
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior for an orderly and productive learning environment;
  • Conducts and participates in child study, eligibility, screening and staff meetings and conferences;
  • Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communications and speech improvement;
  • Develops and uses student's Individualized Educational Plans with each student in caseload;
  • Prepares speech and language evaluation reports;
  • Prepares and maintains related records and files;
  • Assists in proper referrals of students to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate;
  • Performs related tasks as required. 

 

Other Information:

Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of speech and language diagnosis and therapy; thorough knowledge of casework methods and procedures; thorough knowledge of local, state and federal resources, programs, procedures, laws, rules and regulations; ability to conduct interviews, assessments and diagnosis effectively and analyze needs and problems objectively; ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, orally, in writing, and in sign language; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, staff and administration. Considerable experience as a classroom teacher.

 

Possession of or ability to acquire appropriate license(s), certificate(s), and/or endorsement(s) for position as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board.
