Job Description

About the Department

The Electrical Instructor plays a vital role in supporting OTECH’s mission of community, learning, and integrity by providing high-quality technical instruction to students enrolled in the Electrical programs, Electrical Apprenticeship, and Electrical Trades Prep. This position is responsible for fostering a supportive learning environment while guiding students toward successful skill development, competency verification, and program completion. Additional responsibilities include student advisement, maintaining accurate student records, supporting student retention, and building and maintaining strong relationships with area employers to strengthen community workforce connections. The Electrical Instructor also contributes to curriculum development and implementation to ensure students are well prepared for the State of Utah Electrical Licensing Exams. This position works under the direction of the Electrical Program Coordinator, in conjunction with the Program Director, and is committed to upholding professional standards and instructional integrity throughout all aspects of the role.

Position Duties

1. Provide students with technical instruction in a safe, clean and productive learning environment.
2. Administer and grade tests; maintain progress and attendance on students.
3. Working with students to achieve programmatic yearly goals.
4. Motivate and advise students in the areas of appropriate work behavior, training, or study habits. Assist counselors, supervisor, and other staff as necessary to resolve issues affecting student training.
5. Encourage and exemplify professionalism and good work habits.
6. Work with other Electrical Program Instructors to develop, prepare, and implement appropriate curriculum changes according to the recommendations of Occupational Advisory Committee, local businesses, and/or industry and professional standards.
7. Ensure that instructional content areas comply with college standards, and programmatic and/or institutional accreditation requirements.
8. Participate Occupational Advisory Committee meetings.
9. Complete ongoing professional development to increase technical expertise and instructional skills.
10. Support programmatic and college marketing activities.
11. Interact in a positive and professional manner with students, coworkers, and college partners seeking win-win solutions
12. Control the use of equipment and supplies; recommend purchases.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:
1. Must possess a current Utah Journeyman Electrician License.
2. Preference will be given to those individuals that have teaching experience.
3. Preference will be given to those individuals that have a current Utah Master Electrician  License.
4. Familiar with Microsoft Office and can operate a Windows-based personal computer. 


Physical Requirements:
1. Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces;  bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring  manner and/or for long periods of time. 
2. Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working  around operating machines, etc. 


Other Qualifications

WORKING HOURS: Tuesday through Thursday, 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
