Job Description

Journeyperson Mechanic

SOUTHLAND Transportation is currently seeking experienced Mechanics (Automotive or Heavy Duty) to join our team in Calgary.  We offer personalized training, competitive wages, and flexibility within your personal life.

Key Responsibilities

The Mechanic is responsible for servicing/repairing SOUTHLAND school buses in a safe, efficient, and effective manner. This position is not confined to shop activities and will be required to perform field work on down buses.

  • Ongoing maintenance/repair of buses in assigned yard and also in a shop environment
  • Diagnose equipment problems
  • CVIP Inspections
  • Respond to breakdowns
  • Spring and winter maintenance
  • Complete all documentation associated with equipment repairs
  • Work with shop management to maintain schedules and priorities
  • Follow SOUTHLAND procedures and guidelines 
  • A company service van will be provided

Requirements

  • Journeyperson Ticket (Automotive or Heavy Duty)
  • Must possess own tools for the job
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • 2 – 5 years related experience
  • Valid driver’s license
  • CVIP (Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program) License preferred
  • Exposure to working on diesel, propane, and gasoline engines
  • Experience with automatic transmissions
  • Analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong diagnostic skills
  • Computer proficiency
  • Must be physically fit for duty
  • Ability to push, pull, drag and lift items up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in cramped or awkward positions

Remuneration

  • $42.50 per hour
  • Bi-weekly pay period (every second Friday)
  • Employee Benefits Plan (after 3 month probation)
  • Group Registered Retirement Savings (RRSP) Plan (available after 12 months)
  • Annual Tool and Boot Allowance (pro-rated from start date - available in last quarter of the year, and each subsequent year)
