Job Description

Principal Function: : The Food, Farm, and Energy Experience(FFEE) Intern is responsible for design, construction, and installation of an outdoor urban garden environment to engage guests, volunteers, and supporters. The Intern will work with community partners to establish relationships in the community while bringing awareness to the new facility. They will also be an integral part of the team in the overall land management plan including the natural resources on site.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to: 

  1. Execute a multi-year design, planting, maintenance, and harvest schedule for the urban garden.
  2. Assist with land management plans which may include removal or treatment of invasive species, planting of native plants, establishing biodiversity counts, etc.
  3. Collaborate with internal and external partners for support and use of the garden including food security organizations.
  4. Coordinate and lead volunteer planting day and/or garden tending day(s) (weeding, harvest, etc.)
  5. Develop hands-on interactive activities to compliment FFEE topics.
  6. Create social media posts throughout the experience. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:  This job has no supervisory responsibilities. 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Experience in horticulture, agriculture, plant science, environmental science, landscape design, conservation, or a related field. Students with relevant coursework are encouraged to apply.
  • Enthusiasm to learn, grow, and collaborate with others
  • Training in sustainable agriculture, conservation, or food systems is helpful
  • Experience managing projects and delivering results on time
  • Community outreach and education experience
  • Ability to communicate clearly with multiple diverse stakeholders

Length of Internship/Hours/Rate of Pay: 

  • 15 hours/week for 12 weeks
  • June-August 2026
  • $14.00/hour for up to 180 hours
  • Will coordinate and flex schedule around academic commitments as necessary.
