GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB:
This intermediate level position reports to the Fleet Supervisor and, performs preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs on all City-owned and operated medium and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. This classification is distinguished from the position of Automotive Mechanic II by the additional skills and experience required in medium and heavy-duty vehicle maintenance.
Position Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs on all City-owned and operated vehicles, medium- and heavy-weight trucks and equipment.
Assists in ensuring mechanics' compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations and standards of safety and quality.
Assists in ensuring garage equipment is in proper and safe working condition. Maintains a clean and neat shop environment.
Maintains records of all maintenance work performed.
Assist in diagnosing vehicle problems, completing mechanical repairs, and performing routine and complex maintenance and repairs of all medium and heavy-duty vehicles owned and operated by the city.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs on all City-owned and operated vehicles, medium- and heavy-weight trucks and equipment, including but not limited to fire and pump apparatus, aerial ladder trucks, truck hydraulic systems, rescue units, buses, jet-vac trucks, street sweepers, etc.
Operates and/or maintains a vehicle, mechanic's tools, diagnostic equipment, gas analyzer, etc.
Performs additional related duties as required and/or assigned.
Must be capable of using computerized diagnostic software devices and comprehend codes for the repair and maintenance of all City-owned and operated vehicles, medium and heavy-duty trucks.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Other Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK
Vocational/technical diploma in auto mechanics supplemented by six years of responsible experience in mechanical maintenance and repair work, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the, and abilities.
Possess and maintain ASE refrigerant recovery certification, gas analyzer certification, and a valid CDL class "B" driver's license WITH Passenger (“P”) endorsement.
Possess and maintain Emergency Vehicle Technician (“EVT”) certification.
Minimum of four (4) valid ASE certifications in areas of automotive/medium and heavy- duty trucks.
It is the responsibility of the candidate to maintain their licenses and/or certifications as a job requirement.
