The City of Anniston is seeking an organized and community-focused Farmers Market Manager to oversee day-to-day operations of the Anniston Farmers Market.

 

Job Summary 

Under the direction of the Main Street Executive Director, the Farmers Market Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the overall daily operations, logistics, and long-term success of the City of Anniston Farmers Market. This position ensures the market operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and City policies. The Farmers Market Manager organizes, orchestrates, and manages vendor relationships, coordinates setup and tear-down, promotes the market, and assists with the market's special events. This role blends operations, people management, and community engagement to create a vibrant, well-run market that supports local farmers, vendors, and residents.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee all daily market operations, including site setup, vendor coordination, and market close-out
  • Recruit, evaluate, and retain market vendors; ensure compliance with market rules, permits, licenses, and insurance requirements
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate seasonal staff and volunteers in accordance with City policies
  • Serve as the official on-site representative of the City during market operations
  • Maintain vendor, customer, and volunteer records; collect vendor fees and maintain accurate financial documentation
  • Promote the Farmers Market through outreach, partnerships, and special events to increase attendance and vendor participation
  • Monitor market performance, collect data, and prepare reports and recommendations for management
  • Ensure a safe, orderly, clean, and welcoming market environment for vendors and the public
  • Address and resolve customer and vendor concerns in a professional and timely manner

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of principles related to event operations, marketing, and community engagement
  • Ability to supervise staff and volunteers effectively
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain records, prepare reports, and work with basic computer applications
  • Ability to interact professionally with vendors, community partners, and the general public
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Possess a high school diploma or GED; two (2) years of work experience in management, marketing, farmer's marketing, or related field or any level of education and experience commensurate with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities of the job. 
  2. Ability to complete Farmer's Market Manager training.
  3. Ability to work non-standard work hours.
  4. Ability to pass a preemployment background check. 

 

Physical Demands

The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; recurring lifting moderately heavy items such as boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above average agility and dexterity. 

 

Work environment

The work involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines; with contagious diseases or irritant chemicals, etc. The employee works under varies weather conditions, or similar situations where conditions cannot be controlled.

·         Successful completion of a background screening due to the confidential and sensitive nature of information handled

·         Ability to meet physical demands associated with event work, including standing for extended periods and lifting light equipment
