The HK Tax Service Line Director is responsible for leading the firm’s standardized tax preparation service line designed for efficient, high-volume individual and small business returns. This role focuses on workflow execution, staff production, quality control, and continuous process improvement rather than complex technical tax research or relationship-driven consulting.
The success of this service line depends on consistency, speed, and predictability. This position ensures returns move smoothly through Gather, Organize, Prepare. Deliver while maintaining turnaround time expectations and profitability targets.
This position can be located in any of our markets.
If you are looking to do:
- Own daily workflow management and capacity balancing across teams
- Monitor production metrics and enforce turnaround expectations
- Lead and coach preparers toward efficiency and productivity goals
- Perform standardized final review and reduce rework
- Maintain preparation checklists, templates, and SOPs
- Identify bottlenecks and continuously improve processes
- Champion use of firm technology
- Coordinate with other service lines when work exceeds standardized scope
- Participate in recruiting efforts including career fairs and campus outreach for tax staff
If you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA or EA required
- 7+ years of experience in tax compliance within public accounting or a high-volume tax environment
- Strong understanding of individual and small business tax returns (1040, 1065, 1120S)
- Experience reviewing returns and managing staff workflow
- Proficiency in tax preparation software and workflow systems
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general office technology
- Strong organizational and time-management skills in deadline-driven environments
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership and coaching ability
- High ethical standards and professional integrity
Preferred:
- Experience improving processes or standardizing workflows
- Experience managing seasonal staff or production teams
- Multi-office or remote team coordination
- Experience with Thomson Reuters suite
