Job Description

Barrington Christian Academy (BCA) is seeking a creative and passionate High School Art Teacher to join our growing team. This individual will help students develop artistic skill, creative confidence, and a deeper appreciation for beauty, design, and God-given creativity. At BCA, we believe the arts are more than projects and portfolios—they are opportunities for students to reflect the creativity of the Creator, communicate truth, and develop gifts that can impact the world around them.

Job Overview (Classes meet on Fridays)

The High School Art Teacher is responsible for creating a Christ-centered, engaging, and skill-building art program for students in grades 9–12. This role includes teaching foundational and advanced art concepts, developing student portfolios, supporting creative expression, and helping students grow in craftsmanship, discipline, and visual communication. As well as being a key member of the end-of-year art show.

Responsibilities

  • Teach high school visual arts courses across a range of levels and abilities
  • Develop engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans that build artistic skill and creativity
  • Teach foundational and advanced techniques in drawing, painting, design, mixed media, clay, etc.
  • Help students develop portfolios and prepare work for exhibits, showcases, and future opportunities
  • Create a classroom culture marked by excellence, creativity, respect, and encouragement
  • Integrate faith and learning by helping students see art as a reflection of God’s creativity, beauty, and truth
  • Assess student work and provide clear, constructive feedback
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and administration
  • Support school-wide events, art shows, showcases, and student exhibitions
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, chapel, and the broader life of the school

Requirements

  • A strong, personal Christian faith and commitment to BCA’s mission and vision
  • Bachelor’s degree in Art, Art Education, Fine Arts, Education, or a related field
  • Teaching experience in visual arts preferred
  • Strong knowledge of artistic techniques, design principles, and art curriculum
  • Ability to inspire students and develop both skill and confidence
  • Excellent communication, organization, and classroom management skills
  • Passion for working with high school students and helping them grow academically, creatively, and spiritually
  • Ability to create a structured, positive, and engaging studio environment
  • Flexibility, collaboration, and a desire to contribute to BCA’s growing arts program
