Job Description

Pay Rate: $22.66/hour 

The Activities and Recreation Center’s Intramural Staff are a key to the success of the Intramural Activities Program. The Student Lead is an elevated position that will be expected to effectively enforce program policies, assist in creating and following structured programming schedules, and accurately complete programmatic paperwork. Student Leads are responsible for maintaining a high level of communication, and professionalism to ensure that all program rules and policies are followed accordingly. Additionally, Student Leads will provide game day support and oversight for the officials. This could include officiating as needed, conflict management, and risk management. Administrative tasks both before, during, and after events are the responsibility of the Student Lead. The Student Lead is the highest level of leadership on the Intramural Activities team.    

Being an Intramural Student Staff member is a time commitment of a full academic year with an average of 8-15 hours per week. That time is used to assist in the planning and administration of the Intramural Activities Program, supervise intramural events, officiate games, and have regularly scheduled staff meetings. Those selected for this position will have extensive training, so they will be prepared to complete their duties and responsibilities successfully.   

Duties & Responsibilities  

Support Intramural Leagues and Events (70% of Job Duties)  

  • Required to attend Quarterly trainings, retreats, and additional trainings sessions  
  • Required to attend regularly scheduled team meetings, and one-on-one check-ins with the Program Manager.  
  • Supervise and officiate leagues, tournaments, & events – must be available on Sunday evenings from 4-8pm.  
  • Assist in hosting and/or organizing virtual events  
  • Explicit knowledge and enforcement of Intramural policies and sport rules 
  • Act as the main point of contact in case of emergencies, injuries, or conflicts. 
  • Complete all required programmatic paperwork and submit it after each shift. 
  • Maintain program facilities while on shift and ensure all opening and closing tasks are completed before staff are dismissed.  
  • Schedule and work weekly office hour shifts that support leagues and programs on an administrative level. Tasks include, but are not limited to, registration management, league scheduling, participant correspondence, and inventory-based tasks  
  • Assist the Program Manager in facilitating staff trainings and meetings as needed. 
  • This position will require physical movement throughout the entire shift. Physical movement will include, but is not limited to, running and or jogging at a pace consistent with an athletic event, walking and standing for long periods of time, and lifting sports equipment and gear.
  • This position will require staff to be outside for extended periods of time.

Intramural Specialty Groups/ Task (~10% of Job Duties)  

  • Self-selected participation in Intramural Specialty Groups (Packs) to assist in student administration within the program. These groups include Programming and Outreach.  

Additional Task (~20% of Job Duties)  

  • Serve as a resource for participants  
  • Advertise leagues and events to students  
  • Distribution of promotional or marketing materials  
  • Maintain communication between the office and campus community  
  • Assist in completing daily reports, scoresheets, equipment checkout, and other required paperwork  
  • Coordinate with Program Manager of Intramurals and Outdoor Facilities to assess the desires and needs of the campus community 

Required Qualifications  

  • Currently an enrolled UW Bothell student (at least 6 credits)  
  • All student employees are required to maintain a quarterly and cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.  
  • All ARC Staff must have a current First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or ability to obtain one within 30 days of their start date.
  • Must possess strong customer service, conflict management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate, and work well in a team to accomplish a common goal. 
 
  • Willing and able to work nights and weekends - Sunday evenings, 4pm-8pm during Fall and Winter Quarter. 

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Background/interest in sports or recreation as either a participant, coach, and/or official.  
  • Involvement in our Intramural Activities leagues or other programs.  
  • Background/interest in promotion of programs.  
  • Experience in event management/hosting.  

  

All new student employees must also complete UW's online Title IX course about preventing and responding to sex-and gender-based violence and harassment.  


Hiring Process  

  • Students apply via Interfolio 
  • Selected applicants will then be asked to attend a mandatory training session which will allow applicants to learn about the various job requirements, familiarize themselves with the different positions and then display foundational skills of an official (tryout).
    • This training session date will be confirmed with the applicant and Program Manager.
    • Second round interviews may be held as needed.  
  • If the prospective official completes the Training Session and displays foundational skills as an official, they will be hired and start dates/onboarding steps will be emailed. This current position will begin in Fall 2026. 
  • Hired students will be hired on a probationary status. To end probation, staff members are required to complete all ARC and University mandated training sessions.   

Timeline:   

  • Application Opens: March 13th  
  • Application Closes: May 1st, 2026
    • Priority Deadline: April 24, 2026.  
  • Training session will be scheduled between the applicant and Program Manager. Interviews will be held in May and June, 2026
