Description

JOB SUMMARY: Provides companionship and personal care services to clients.



 



QUALIFICATIONS



· 1+ years of experience/training as a Personal Care Attendant,



· Understanding and compassion for the care needs of the frail elderly.



· If preapproved to Lifespan driver you must have a clean DMV record, automobile insurance, and a current California Driver's license.



· Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in English in direct conversations and by telephone.



· Ability to download applications, and process work request through various applications by smart phone or computer.



·  Must purchase and pass Live scan background check prior to employment. (Guardian registration will be provided by agency, once background check clears)



· Flexibility in response to changes in schedule, policy, procedure, environment, and emergencies.



 



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS



· Ability to accurately and legibly chart written communication.



· Ability to perform housekeeping duties; vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, emptying trash.



· Ability to assist clients to ambulate safely.



· Walking, reaching and/or bending.



· Lifting not to exceed 25 pounds.



· Ability to transfer clients from bed to standing and sitting positions and from sitting position to standing.



· Willingness to wear a mask throughout entire shift.



 



JOB RESPONSIBILITIES



· Participates in orientation and ongoing InService training program



· Maintain client confidentiality. (HIPPA)



· Provides personal care services (bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing and feeding) to clients in their place of residence.



· Provides assistance to and from toilet or commode and emptying and cleaning of commode.



· Provides assistance with incontinence aids.



· Provides catheter care, which includes skin care, emptying the collection bag, and reporting any equipment issues.



· Observes for problems with skin and provides preventative skin care.



· Keeps intake and output records, as requested by the Care Manager.



· Provides assistance with ambulation as needed.



· Assists with transferring of mobility-impaired clients.



· Uses Gait belt or Hoyer lift, if required.



· Assists with turning and positioning of bedbound clients.



· Assists with care of hearing aids, glasses, dentures, and personal belongings.



· Assists with range-of-motion exercises and physical therapy exercises as prescribed by RN or physical therapists.



· Supervises the safety of memory-impaired and judgment-impaired clients.



· Home maintenance, including but not limited to: sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dishes, cleaning the bathroom, taking out garbage, dusting and picking up, and changing linens.



· Laundry service, including washing, drying, ironing, and putting away.



· Meal preparation according to diet instructions. Makes meals attractive, balanced and nutritious.



· Assist with shopping and errands. (If preapproved by Lifespan)



· Pet care, including feeding, assistance with veterinary care, maintenance of litter box, and grooming.



· Plant care, watering of plants inside and outside and other light gardening activities.



· Assistance to client with appropriate social/recreational activities.



· Supervise clients in the taking of pre-dispensed medication.



· Reports all changes in client's condition to the Care Manager.



· Understand and comply with agency policies regarding safety and infection control

· Represent Lifespan in the community in a professional manner.



· Understand boundaries and limit of professional relationship and role with Lifespan.



· Ability to independently track accepted schedule, to show up to shifts on time and work hours of shifts as scheduled.



· Ability to get along with coworkers and management and deal effectively and professionally under pressure.
