General Summary
Operate special heavy-duty equipment used in landscape construction and the repair and maintenance of Campus grounds and facilities.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform digging, grading, hauling, mowing, loading, hoisting, backfilling, tree trimming, transplanting and demolition operations with power-driven equipment.
- Operate, inspect, adjust, and perform minor service and repairs on motor vehicles and heavy-duty special equipment such as trucks, tractors, backhoes, end loaders, bulldozers, forklifts, road graders, and sweepers; and install, adjust and remove various attachments such as snow plows, booms, buckets, blades, discs and mowers.
- Perform cement repair and maintenance on sidewalks, manholes, catch basins, flower boxes, and other cement items as assigned.
- Remove snow and ice, as assigned, by sanding, salting, sweeping, chopping, and shoveling and/or operating snow removal vehicles and equipment.
- Assist in coordinating work assignments to ensure timely job completion, and maintain necessary records of materials and time expended.
- Maintain cleanliness of work and storage areas, and all tools, vehicles, and equipment used in the performance of duties.
- Report any damage, malfunction, irregularities, and/or potential hazards in buildings, grounds, equipment, vehicles, or supplies to supervisor.
- Perform as a Groundsperson and assist skilled tradespersons, as assigned.
- Perform related Departmental duties, as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to read, write, interpret instructions and perform basic arithmetic, typically acquired through the completion of a high school education is necessary.
Two years of grounds maintenance experience are necessary.
Ability to meet Departmental standards of reasonable personal hygiene is necessary.
Ability to operate backhoes, front-end loaders, sweepers, graders and other related maintenance and construction equipment is necessary.
Possession of a valid Michigan Commercial Driver's license, with a Group A or B designation is necessary.
Routine lifting of a minimum of 50 pounds may be required.

Salary: FM 16 = $23.37 an hour/$48,610 annually
Shift: Monday - Friday 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
