Position Title:  Teacher Assistant

Position Summary: Teacher Assistant (Missouri Teaching Certification issued by DESE required)

 

The Teacher Assistant provides instructional, behavioral, and supervisory support to certified staff in order to enhance student learning and promote a safe, orderly, and effective educational environment. Working under the direction of certified staff and building administration, this position assists with instructional activities, supports individual and small groups of students, and helps meet the diverse academic, social, and emotional needs of students.

 

In addition to classroom support, the Teacher Assistant assists with student supervision in non-instructional settings, including hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and during arrival and dismissal. This position reinforces school and classroom expectations, promotes positive student behavior, and supports consistent routines throughout the school day.

 

The Teacher Assistant is responsible for maintaining confidentiality, supporting classroom and building operations, and following district policies and procedures. This position must meet applicable requirements established by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for support staff.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

A. Missouri Teaching Certification
B. Ability and personality to work with colleagues, teachers and other staff.

 

Pay Scale: $17.19 - $20.95 (salary is based on previous related experience)

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Participates in daily and long-range lesson and classroom activity planning.


• Conducts learning exercises with small groups of children.


• Guides children in working and playing harmoniously with other children.


• Alerts the teacher to special needs of individual children.


• Provides escort assistance for children as necessary.


• Helps maintain informal student performance records.


• Assists teacher(s) on maintaining student work and study areas.


• Assist with the supervision of children during meal times and play periods.


• Collects and displays suitable material for educational displays.


• Must be able to run, jump, walk, stand, sit, and lift. 

PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT

The period of employment follows the academic calendar or nine and one-half (9.5) months annually

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

Must hold a current Missouri Teaching Certification issued by DESE
