MSHS English Teacher

The MSHS English Teacher teaches primarily in grades 7-8 with the possibility of teaching in grades 9–12, developing skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical analysis. The role emphasizes literature study, composition, and preparing students for college and career readiness.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
- Valid teaching license through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- SEI Endorsement.
- Knowledge of social-emotional learning (SEL) frameworks and trauma-informed practices.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
Reports to: MSHS Principal
Performance Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver standards-aligned lessons using the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks (ELA/Literacy)
- Teach literature (novels, short stories, poetry, drama) and writing (narrative, argumentative, analytical)
- Guide students in close reading, textual evidence, and critical thinking
- Assess student progress through essays, projects, presentations, and exams
- Provide timely, constructive feedback on writing
- Differentiate instruction for diverse learners, including English learners and students with disabilities
- Foster discussion-based learning and respectful classroom dialogue
- Communicate with families and collaborate with staff
Work Year: Full-time, School Year.
Salary/Benefits: Benefits consistent with the PAT contract.
