DIETETIC TECHNICIAN JOB POSTING:

Title:   Dietetic Technician

Brookside Multicare in Smithtown, NY has an opportunity for a Part time Dietetic Technician.

POSITION SUMMARY:
To assist the clinical dietitians with patient care for patient satisfaction, tray accuracy & food production.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for assisting patients with menu completion and follow up computer entry.
  • Reviews menus and exercises caution to ensure that the current diet matches the MD order.
  • Assists patients in menu selection based on diet orders and offers alternate food selections when needed.
  • Conducts patient meal rounds.
  • Refers problems and questions to Clinical Dietitian.
  • Prints menus for facility distribution.

·         Communicates with nursing, dietitians, and food service staff regarding patient nutritional care.

·         Provides basic medical nutrition therapy to low risk patients.

  • Demonstrates ability to modify menus, meal plans and diets to meet the needs of age specific groups: pediatric, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients.
  • Maintains GERIMENU computer system information.
  • Maintains and updates patient information in GERIMENU computer system.
  • Works closely with supervisors, dietitians, and food production personnel to coordinate good patient meal experience.
  • Creates and maintains an atmosphere of courtesy and respect toward patients, families, and staff.
  • Performs related duties, as assigned.

The Dietetic Assistant is responsible for the maintenance and accuracy of the computer file for each patient which can include: diet order, allergies, supplements, nourishments and food preferences.  Responsible for communicating with nursing, patient, family and the food and nutrition staff regarding patient nutritional care. Assists registered dietitians in the care of patients.  Maintains various records in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Associates Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics, preferred.
  • Dietetic Technician Registered (DTR), preferred.
  • Basic computer skills, knowledge of GERIMENU (diet order management system) strongly preferred.
  • Dietary Aide experience
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets and nutrition supplements
