Starting Wage: $20.60


 


Immediate Supervisor: Kaw Valley USD 321 Transportation Director


 


School Bus Driver Qualifications/Requirements


Each person employed by Kaw Valley USD 321 who will provide student transportation shall be licensed in accordance with K.S.A. 8-234b and amendments thereto.


 


Bus Drivers (for gross vehicle weight of over 26,000 pounds and designed to transport over 16 passengers):



  1. Shall maintain a commercial class A or B driver’s license, with both “P” (passenger) and “S” (school bus) endorsements

  2. Complete Entry Level Behind the Wheel Training (ELDT) with a FMCSA registered training provider - minimum of 12 hours

  3. Must pass Kansas Department of Transportation required background check and drug testing

  4. Complete an approved First Aid/CPR course (within 30 days of the first day of student transport, and certification renewed and kept current)

  5. Pass a state approved Defensive Driving Course (within 30 days of the first day of student transport, and renewed at minimum every 3 years)

  6. Have a physical examination in accordance with the Kansas Department of Transportation form 1541 

  7. Attend 10 safety meetings annually

  8. Route drivers must be a minimum of 18 years of age, Activity Drivers must be a minimum of 21 years of age.





School Bus Driver Duties/Responsibilities:



  1. Maintain daily transportation logs (including documentation of safety checks) and submit to supervisor

  2. Report mechanical problems or routine maintenance needs to Director of Transportation

  3. Collaborate with other drivers and transportation personnel to develop and implement daily routes as well as monthly planning of activity trips

  4. Communicate effectively and in a professional manner with parents and other stakeholders

  5. Maintain a route map in assigned bus and current copy with Transportation Director and Building Administrator

  6. Follow pick-up times as indicated on route sheets

  7. Maintain cleanliness of assigned bus (both inside and outside)

  8. Maintain a safe and orderly environment while driving the bus
