The Opportunity
The Associate Commissioning Manager operates in two modes depending on project scale and complexity. On limited-scope projects, the Associate CXM functions as the independent commissioning lead, owning delivery of the technical scope, coordinating with the Project Manager and Site Manager, and serving as Thermo Systems' primary technical contact with the customer. On larger or more complex projects, the Associate CXM works under the direction of a CX Manager or Senior CX Manager, contributing to field execution, technical coordination, and commissioning documentation as part of a broader team.
This role is designed for technically credentialed professionals ready to take on direct commissioning responsibility while continuing to develop the project leadership, customer management, and cross-functional coordination skills required at the CX Manager level.
What Youll Do
Technical Scope Ownership & Engineering Coordination:
- Own technical scope delivery on limited-scope projects; support senior CXM staff on larger engagements.
- Coordinate with engineering teams to document and resolve technical issues appropriate to project role.
- Ensure deliverables, submittals, and commissioning documentation are accurate and contract-compliant.
Commissioning & Start-Up Leadership:
- Lead field commissioning independently on limited-scope projects, from pre-functional checks through acceptance.
- Execute assigned tasks under senior CXM direction on larger projects, adhering to established schedules and standards.
- Oversee and execute FAT/SAT plans on limited-scope work; support plan execution as directed on larger projects.
- Own punch list management where serving as lead; contribute to punch list activities as assigned elsewhere.
Quality & Technical Assurance:
- Execute all commissioning activities in compliance with project specifications and Thermo Systems quality standards.
- Maintain accurate field records, redlines, and as-built documentation throughout the commissioning lifecycle.
- Monitor, maintain, and support commissioning documentation efforts across customer-specific platforms such as CX Alloy, BIM 360, and similar tools.
- Escalate technical risks and quality concerns to the Project Manager or senior CXM staff promptly.
Customer Technical Interface:
- Serve as Thermo Systems' primary technical contact on limited-scope projects, leading meetings and acceptance activities.
- Support senior CXM staff on customer relationships and technical interfaces on larger projects.
- Represent Thermo Systems professionally in all client interactions; support training and handover as required.
- Navigate priority conflicts with customers and trade partners constructively, seeking mutually beneficial resolutions and escalating to senior staff when needed.
Cross-Functional Project Integration:
- Partner with the Project Manager and Site Manager on scheduling and installation readiness. Independently operating on limited-scope work, working in a supporting role on larger projects.
- Provide accurate technical status updates for project reporting and governance.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, CX agents, and contractors; escalate schedule and scope issues as appropriate.
What Were Looking For
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, Associate's degree in a related technical discipline, or equivalent hands-on field experience.
- 34 years of technical field experience in commissioning, controls, automation, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with automation, controls, or MEP systems in industrial or data center settings.
- Ability to independently lead commissioning activities on limited-scope projects and take direction effectively within larger project teams.
- Prior experience serving as a technical lead or field coordinator on commissioning or startup projects.
- Exposure to data center infrastructure, critical facility systems, or industrial automation environments.
- Experience with customer commissioning platforms such as CX Alloy or BIM 360.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong organizational skills with a commitment to accurate, high-quality documentation.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to engage professionally with clients, contractors, and project teams.
- Familiarity with FAT/SAT processes and commissioning methodologies.
- Proficiency with project management and field documentation tools such as Microsoft Office, Procore, or similar platforms.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
