    Position Title: Elementary Assistant Principal

    Position Overview:
    Browning Public Schools is seeking a dedicated, experienced, and motivated individual to fill the position of Elementary Assistant Principal. This role is essential in supporting the principal and contributing to the success of students and staff within a safe, nurturing, and academically rigorous environment. The Assistant Principal will work closely with the principal to ensure the school's smooth operation and provide leadership across all areas of the school, with a focus on student achievement, safety, and staff development.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Assist the principal in the overall administration of the school, and serve as acting principal as needed.
    • Develop and propose schedules for classes and extracurricular activities, and supervise the preparation of student schedules.
    • Supervise and evaluate instructional and support staff.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of the school's budget.
    • Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment, conduct inventories, and maintain records.
    • Assist with safety inspections and oversee safety drills and practices.
    • Supervise student attendance, monitor reporting, and work with the attendance supervisor on investigative follow-ups.
    • Support student behavior management and restorative practices.
    • Coordinate support services including transportation, custodial, and cafeteria services.
    • Prepare and supervise the preparation of reports, records, and other required paperwork.
    • Foster positive relationships with students, families, staff, and the community, with an emphasis on cultural responsiveness and inclusive communication.
    • Perform other duties as necessary to support the district's mission and objectives.

    Qualifications:

    • Education/Experience:
      • Master's Degree in school administration or related field.
      • Valid State of Montana Principal Certificate.
      • A minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience.
    • Skills and Knowledge:
      • Proven skills in participatory management, problem-solving, and organization.
      • Strong knowledge of school law, finance, personnel management, procurement, and facilities management.
      • Experience with trauma-informed education and restorative discipline practices.
      • Knowledge of program planning, budgeting, and curriculum development.
      • Strong understanding of best instructional practices to help all students achieve high standards.
      • Proven ability to develop positive relationships with all students, staff, and the wider community.
      • Ability to supervise instructional and support staff and motivate staff to maintain high standards.
      • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets effectively.
      • Strong communication and organizational skills.
    • Desirable Qualifications:
      • Experience in school administration/management.
      • Experience working in Native American communities.
      • Grant writing and technology skills are a plus.

    Salary and Benefits:
    Salary is based on qualifications and is DOE.  Benefits include paid health insurance, Montana Teachers' Retirement, and Leave.  Relocation reimbursement is available.
