The Role 

At FreshDirect, our customers are at the heart of everything we do—and that starts with building a strong, scalable financial foundation behind the scenes. We are seeking a Financial Controller to lead our accounting function and ensure the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of our financial operations. 

This role is a critical partner to the CFO and executive leadership team, responsible for delivering best in class financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, and enabling data-driven decision making across a complex, operations driven business. The ideal candidate brings both strategic thinking and hands-on execution, with the ability to lead teams, optimize processes, and support continued growth. 

What You’ll Do 

Lead & Develop a High-Performing Team 

  • Provide strong leadership to the accounting organization, fostering a culture rooted in accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement  

  • Set clear goals, develop talent, and build a scalable team structure aligned with FreshDirect’s growth. 

Own Financial Reporting & Close 

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with US GAAP  

  • Deliver clear, actionable reporting and variance analysis to executive leadership and key stakeholders 

Drive Business Partnership & Planning 

  • Partner closely with the CFO and cross-functional leaders across Operations, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams  

  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes, providing insights that improve performance, margins, and decision-making 

Strengthen Controls & Compliance 

  • Design, implement, and maintain a robust internal control environment to safeguard company assets and ensure regulatory compliance  

  • Oversee adherence to accounting standards, policies, and audit requirements 

Optimize Systems & Processes 

  • Identify opportunities to streamline and automate accounting processes, improving efficiency, accuracy, and scalability  

  • Lead the ongoing management and optimization of ERP and financial systems to support business needs 

Manage Audit & Tax 

  • Own relationships with external auditors and tax advisors, ensuring successful audit completion and compliance with all filings  

  • Oversee corporate, sales, and use tax processes with a focus on accuracy and timeliness 

Build for Scale 

  • Establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures that enable standardization and support long-term growth  

  • Continuously improve processes to keep pace with a high-growth, operationally complex environment 

What You’ll Bring 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred) 

  • 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a Controller or similar leadership role 

  • Experience in a high-growth, operationally complex environment (eCommerce, retail, grocery, supply chain, or PE-backed company preferred) 

  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls 

  • Strong systems experience (e.g., NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar ERP platforms) and advanced Excel skills 

  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and scale teams 

  • Highly analytical with strong attention to detail and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset 

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders

Salary 

$175,000 – $225,000
