Who are we looking for?
In response to continued growth within our Water/Wastewater business, our Maryland-based Water group is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to provide technical leadership and drive the successful delivery of major water and wastewater treatment and infrastructure projects throughout the Maryland / DC / Virginia region and across the East Coast. In this role, you will serve as a key liaison between owners, designers, and contractors, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. You will work closely with clients and consultant partners to define project needs, oversee the preparation and modification of technical deliverables—including reports, specifications, plans, cost estimates, calculations, and construction schedules—and provide critical input on constructability, bidability, and overall project execution strategies.
The Senior Project Manager will play a vital leadership role throughout the full project lifecycle, from design through construction, startup, and closeout. Responsibilities include preparing and managing project budgets and schedules, overseeing on-site construction observation staff, monitoring contractor compliance with design requirements, managing project documentation and correspondence, and proactively addressing construction issues that impact scope, cost, or schedule. You will negotiate change orders on behalf of the owner, support equipment and process startup and optimization, and foster strong collaboration across project teams through mentoring and training. In addition to project delivery, this role will contribute to the continued growth of our Maryland / DC / Virginia region linear water and wastewater practice by supporting proposal development, sales and marketing efforts, and building long-term client relationships that help expand our presence and impact in the region.
Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- Engineering Solutions Design: Design engineering solutions and the associated validation process to enable the realization of a design brief (for example, in terms of functionality, performance, aesthetics, and cost) that conforms to organizational and/or regulatory standards.
- Engineering Standards Specification: Analyze information, draft engineering standards and specifications, and evaluate the effectiveness of those standards within own engineering discipline to ensure work of the required quality is delivered and to inform engineering work in the organization and/or of its suppliers, contractors, and consultants.
- Technical Developments Recommendation: Discuss and recommend more complex or innovative technical developments to improve the quality of projects and supporting infrastructure to better meet client's needs.
- Professional Supervision: Lead and oversee the provision of professional supervision to ensure that there is effective professional supervision that supports practitioners' professional development and embeds reflective practice.
- Project Management: Manage a portfolio of projects.
- Client & Customer Management (External): Manage important client relationships with guidance from senior colleagues, or oversee relationship management with a group of more transactional clients and customers.
What you will bring to the table:
Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
Registered Professional Engineer License in Maryland, Virginia, and/or DC
20+ years of experience in planning, design, and construction of linear water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure
Previous consulting experience is strongly desired
