Position Grade 99
Position Summary

Under direct supervision, provides basic entry-level interpreting/transliterating services for students, faculty, staff, and/or visitors requiring such services. Works under the close guidance and supervision of a certified Sign Language Interpreter. Works strictly on an on-call basis, as required or as scheduled.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs basic entry-level interpreting/transliterating services.

  • Follows instructions and receives guidance and training from certified SL interpreters on a task-by-task basis.
  • Abides by the Code of Professional Conduct as set forth by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
  • Must maintain New Mexico Provisional Signed Language Interpreter License.
  • OR must maintain interpreter certification and remain compliant with the New Mexico Non-Resident Interpreter Registration.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED; no previous experience required. Certification/Licensure: New Mexico Provisional Signed Language Interpreter License OR complete and comply with the New Mexico's Regulation and Licensing Department's Non-Resident Interpreter Registration.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
