SUMMARY:
Primarily responsible for caring for residents in Assisted Living under the direction of nursing staff. Responsible laundry for the department and individual residents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Provides assistance to residents with personal care, including bathing/showers, dressing, undressing, shaving, oral hygiene, skin/hair/nail care, and AM and PM care.
Assists residents with ambulation, toileting, and other activities of daily living.
Performs catheter care each shift, and as needed.

Answers call lights as needed, to determine resident’s needs.
Makes rounds to check on residents at least once every two hours.
Assists residents to dining room at meal times. Picks up and returns meal trays to Nutrition Services for residents who eat meals in their rooms.
Feeds or assists residents who require help eating. Documents % of meal eaten after each meal.
Passes resident snacks.
Operates mechanical lifts to transfer residents, as needed.
Assists residents with group and individual activities as needed.
Makes resident beds. Changes bed linens twice per week on scheduled shower day, and as needed.
Turns and positions bedfast residents to promote comfort and prevent skin breakdown.
Routinely performs the following housekeeping duties for the unit daily, or as needed:
- Clean and defrost refrigerators
- Empty trash
- Clean nourishment rooms, microwave, and coffee maker
- Clean shower rooms
Performs laundry duties for the unit, including but not limited to:
- Washes and dries resident’s personal clothing, as needed
- Folds and hangs laundry
- Distributes resident’s personal clothing back to their rooms
- Washes, dries and folds unit towels, sheets, and linen in main laundry room
- Empties dryer lint traps every shift.
Performs the following housekeeping duties in the absence of the Assisted Living Housekeeper, as assigned:
- Cleaning resident rooms
- Disinfect bathrooms
- Clean common areas, solariums, hallways, and lounges
Re-stocks personal care supplies and linens.
Delivers mail to residents.
Obtains resident weights as assigned.
Communicates with charge nurse about any unusual observations or change in condition of residents. Immediately reports any unusual observations such as bruises, skin tears or reddened areas, falls, changes from usual behavior, or physical abilities to a nurse.
Prepares room for new admission. Assists with resident admissions including:
- greets resident and family member.
- orients resident to room number and location, call light system, and layout of
room and facility.
- obtains vital signs, height, weight and documents these.
- unpacks resident clothing and personal items. Assures that clothing and
personal possessions are labeled and documented on personal property inventory
sheet.
- assures that resident has needed personal care items.
Assists charge nurse with resident discharges/transfers. Cleans resident room after discharge.
Monitors resident alarms, and responds immediately, to assure resident safety.
Is knowledgeable about Wander-Guard resident security system. Participates in implementation of the system, in accordance to established policies/procedures. Promptly responds to security alarms.
Delivers meal trays to residents in Independent Living residents who are unable to go to dining room, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrates good interpersonal and communication skills. The employee must be able to organize work activities with minimal supervision. Must be able to set priorities and plan workload independently.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Must have completed at least two years of high school. High school diploma or GED certificate preferred. Completion of the state approved Certified Nurse Aide training class or experience in Assisted Living or Home Health environment.
