- Facilitate communication between deaf/hard of hearing students and others in the educational environment in the mode of communication specified in the student's individualized educational program (IEP)
- Assist the teacher with meeting the general educational considerations as determined in the student's IEP.
- Function in a manner appropriate to each interpreting situation, demonstrating professional appearance, conduct and promptness.
- Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions with school personnel, students, parents, and visitors.
- Perform professionalism in all interactions with school personnel, students, parents, and visitors.
- Prepare for demanding course material as necessary for successful interpretation of instructional activities. This may include reviewing the text, looking up signs, developing supplemental materials for the student or tutoring.
- Assist the teacher with routine classroom duties when it does not interfere with interpreting.
- Provide interpreting services for school functions outside the classroom, extracurricular activities, and other school sponsored activities.
- Maintain an open line of communication with the general education teacher/the teacher of record noting the dear/hard of hearing student's performance in the educational setting.
- Maintain regular attendance.

| POSITION DETAILS: | EVSC Special Education Assistants work throughout the school year, beginning one day before school begins and ending on the last day of school. Enjoy your summers off! The schedule is 5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day and follows the EVSC School Board of Trustees approved school calendar. This includes 27+paid holidays throughout the school year! This position will begin in the 2026-27 school year.

The hourly rate for a current EVSC assistant will be based on years of service with EVSC in an assistant role. Annual, incremental pay increases are given for each year of service with the EVSC in this role if an employee has worked 120 days in a school year. | REQUIREMENTS: | High school diploma or GED required. Additionally, all new employees are required to complete required online professional development within 60 days of employment. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: | Vacancy is posted first for EVSC Special Education Paraprofessional transfers. If no internal transfer takes place, outside applicants will be reviewed and considered. This position is based upon student enrollment in this school building. Fluctuating student enrollment may make it necessary to move an employee to another school building or reduction in hours. Enrollment is evaluated at the start of a new school year. The EVSC works diligently to ensure employees maintain the position that they are hired for but in some cases, transfers may occur in order to effectively serve EVSC students. |

The educational interpreter's role is to facilitate communication between persons who are deaf/hard of hearing and corporation personnel, peers, and invited guests within the educational environment.

(C) met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics by having passed the state approved formal Para Pro Assessment. Previous experience with students with disabilities is not essential but helpful.
