Primary Duties and
Responsibilities:
 

As Belmont social work students engage in a curriculum integrating professional practice, research, and interdisciplinary collaboration, the School of Social Work seeks applicants with clinical expertise and a strong commitment to teaching, scholarship, and student mentorship. Preference will be given to candidates who can contribute across both BSW and MSW curricula, collaborate in course design and delivery, and participate in interdisciplinary initiatives.

Basic functions as required by Provost Office include:

  • Complete 24 workload hours, or equivalent, per academic year.
  • Teach across the social work curriculum in both the BSW and MSW programs, including foundational courses and specialized areas aligned with the candidate’s professional expertise in clinical practice, leadership, and community engagement.
  • Advise and mentor BSW and MSW students in research and other course-related projects.
  • Engage in activities that support the mission and vision of Belmont University, the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and the School of Social Work.
  • Participate in service through school, college, and university committees and initiatives.
  • Demonstrate teaching excellence, including effective use of the learning management system (Canvas), timely feedback and grading, and clear communication with students regarding course expectations and progress.
  • Engage in scholarly activity and professional development.
  • Advise students in course selection and degree completion.
  • Participate in community engagement and service (e.g., board membership, professional trainings, speaking engagements, or service to local faith communities).
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administration on interdisciplinary initiatives, program development, and university-wide projects.
  • Abide by all relevant university and/or department procedures and policies.
  • Manage online grading system.
  • Timely submission of book orders, if textbooks required. 
  • Maintain regular office hours.

    • Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.
    • Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
    • Knowledge of the programs and services offered by Belmont University. Interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses.
    • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to respond to high-pressure situations. Ability to thrive in an environment of hard work.
    • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
      
    Required EducationA Master of Social Work (MSW) is required, and a doctorate or significant progress toward a doctoral degree is required. A Ph.D. or a DSW is strongly preferred.
      
    Required ExperiencePriority will be given to candidates with expertise in clinical social work practice and the ability to teach across the BSW and MSW curricula. Experience or demonstrated leadership in research and teaching is highly valued. A minimum of two years of post-master's practice experience is strongly preferred. Applicants with diverse areas of practice and scholarship are encouraged to apply, particularly those who can contribute to Belmont’s values-centered, interdisciplinary learning environment.
