Summary:



The Principal of Bowen Elementary School serves as a highly effective, equity-centered data 


-informed instructional leader responsible for advancing student achievement, cultivating an inclusive and culturally responsive school culture, and strengthening systems that support excellent teaching and learning for all students.


The principal leads a high-performing school community and is charged with sustaining strong outcomes while addressing persistent opportunity gaps through data-driven, equity-focused leadership. The role includes oversight of instruction, operations, staff development, and family engagement, ensuring alignment with district priorities and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Standards I–IV.  Experience


With literacy curriculum and leading literacy change outcomes for young learners.



Qualifications:



Required Qualifications



  • Massachusetts DESE licensure as Principal/Assistant Principal (PreK–6)

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution (advanced degree preferred)

  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful elementary teaching experience

  • Demonstrated success in instructional leadership and improving student outcomes

  • Experience with educator supervision and evaluation systems

  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, culturally responsive leadership, and inclusive practices


Preferred Qualifications



  • Prior experience as a school administrator or principal

  • Experience leading in a diverse, multilingual school community

  • Proven success implementing MTSS, Tier 1 instructional improvement, and intervention systems

  • Experience with strategic staffing, scheduling, and resource alignment

  • Strong facilitation and adult learning leadership skills



Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To):



Instructional Leadership (DESE Standard I: Instructional Leadership)



  • Lead the implementation of high-quality, culturally responsive curriculum and instruction across all classrooms

  • Use data cycles and evidence-based practices to address variability in student outcomes, with a focus on historically marginalized student groups

  • Ensure equitable access to rigorous Tier 1 instruction and targeted interventions

  • Develop a problem of practice approach to continuous improvement, centering questions such as:


    • Where are disparities in student outcomes most persistent?

    • How can instructional coherence be strengthened across classrooms?


  • Monitor and improve teaching and learning through frequent classroom observations, feedback, and coaching


Management and Operations (DESE Standard II: Management and Operations)



  • Develop and manage systems for staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation aligned to student needs

  • Ensure operational systems (budget, safety, compliance, and student services) are efficient, data-informed, and equity-driven

  • Oversee implementation of MTSS and student support structures

  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and orderly learning environment


Family and Community Engagement (DESE Standard III: Family and Community Engagement)



  • Build authentic, culturally responsive partnerships with families and community stakeholders

  • Ensure accessible communication systems for multilingual families

  • Elevate family voice and shared responsibility for student success

  • Foster trust and belonging across diverse school communities


Professional Culture (DESE Standard IV: Professional Culture)



  • Cultivate a collaborative, inclusive, and growth-oriented professional culture

  • Lead professional learning aligned to district priorities, including culturally responsive practices and equitable outcomes

  • Develop staff capacity through coaching, feedback, and distributed leadership structures

  • Promote educator belonging, retention, and continuous improvement


Terms of Employment



  • Work Year: 12-month position

  • Schedule: Full-time

  • Salary Range / Salary Code: In accordance with the NPS Administrator Salary Schedule

  • Position Type: Administrative (Certified)

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:



Work Environment



  • School-based setting with responsibilities that may extend beyond the school day

  • Occasional evening and weekend commitments (family events, meetings, community engagement)

  • Requires collaboration across school and district teams


Physical Requirements



  • Ability to perform essential functions of the role

  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs.), bending, and movement within a school setting

  • Ability to respond to and de-escalate student situations, including potential physical intervention, consistent with district training
